Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke

The continuing horribleness of the Trump Administration

Sheriff David Clarke edition.

Earlier this week, David Clarke, Milwaukee County Sheriff (think former Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio without the charm), said he had accepted a job inside the Department of Homeland Security to run something called the Office of Partnership and Programs. Problem is, nobody within the department actually confirmed he was offered the position — and it may not matter anyway — as he was recently charged with plagiarism, which may, if there’s a God, derail his appointment. It’s one of those cabinet-level positions that doesn’t require senate confirmation, so if Trump wants Clarke, America gets him, which means there probably is no God.

Anyway, to the charge.

In all instances reviewed by CNN’s KFile, Clarke lifts language from sources and credits them with a footnote, but does not indicate with quotation marks that he is taking the words verbatim.

Clarke, for his part, called the reporter Andrew Kaczynski a “hack” and then said, essentially, lighten up, it’s just quotation marks.

“They’re saying certain words and phrases I should have put quotation marks around. OK, alright, fine. Maybe from a formatting standpoint the thesis isn’t perfect, but the content is there.”

For the love of Milli and Vanilli, this guy is such a horror, such a pustule pose, such a self-promoter, plagiarism is, in his case, something of a touch foul, but if it keeps him out of DHS, all hail the MLA Style Manual!

Clarke visited 20 states in 2016, according to financial disclosure documents he filed with the county, often to give paid speeches in which he praised Donald Trump. He spent about 60 days out of state last year, the documentsshow. (Before he campaigned for Trump, Clarke took a trip to Moscow in December 2015 with a delegation from the NRA, during which they met with Russian officials.)

Clarke also claimed that if Donald Trump, whom he called the “steadfast leader our nation needs,” was not elected last November, it would have proved the 2016 election results were fraudulent and led to “pitchfork and torches time in America”; he has said members of Black Lives Matter are “subhuman creeps”; and he’s at the center of two investigations, one in which an inmate in his jail died due to dehydration, and another for the death of a newborn after his deputies ignored the infant’s mother as she went into labor.

There is also this gem.

“This guy [Obama] has continually, continually for eight years rubbed the stain of slavery, rubbed white peoples’ nose in the stain of slavery,” said Clarke. “He’s done it for eight years.”

A law enforcement official calls the president of the United States … this guy?

As Allen Iverson might say, “And we talking about plagiarism … not the man! Plagiarism!”
